– Padon Papke, Service Foreman

Western States has a rich tradition of promoting our people, and many of our current leaders started here in entry-level jobs and grew their way through multiple promotions.

At Western States, safety is more than a slogan. It is a core value that we focus on every day, everywhere. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of safety for every one of our employees, and along with safety, we create clean, orderly work environments.

Like family, we watch out for each other to ensure everyone goes home safely each day. Employee Safety Advocate Teams at each store work closely with our regional Safety Managers to resolve any concerns. A variety of skill certifications (MSHA New Miner, OSHA 10, HAZWOPER, rigging, forklift operation, and more) are offered regularly. In addition, daily tool-box talks, Smiths Driving training, regular facility and equipment inspections and more contribute to our goal of sending everyone home safely, everyday.

“Safety at Western States is a big focus and I find myself now using the same things that I’ve learned at work, I’m carrying on in my own personal life, even in my own personal vehicle.”
