Seventy years ago, in the rugged landscapes of the Northwest, an idea quietly took shape. It wasn’t flashy or loud—but it was steadfast. The mission was simple and powerful: to build, to serve, and to stand with the people shaping the land.
That idea became Western States Equipment Company.
From Our First Dozer to Today’s Smart Machines
Over the past seven decades, Western States has supported progress across Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and Wyoming. What began with the earliest dozers has grown into a network of technology‑driven, satellite‑guided solutions that help our customers work safer, faster, and smarter.
Our territory now spans more than 191,000 square miles of mountains, forests, fields, and communities—and our commitment to the people within it runs just as deep.
Where Our Story Begins
The Western States story officially began on February 23, 1956, when Caterpillar selected Western Equipment to succeed Bunting Tractor as the Cat® dealer serving Boise, Twin Falls, American Falls, and Ontario. That decision laid the foundation for decades of growth, industry leadership, and customer partnership.
Since then, we’ve evolved through changing markets, strategic acquisitions, and rapid technological advancements. But through it all, one thing hasn’t changed:
